Row on the Stour
We row on the beautiful River Stour, which stretches across almost the whole of East Kent, starting in Lenham and picking up multiple tributaries on its way to the sea in Pegwell Bay, near Sandwich. Along the way, it passes through some important Kentish towns such as Ashford, Canterbury, and Sandwich.
“Our” stretch of the Stour is that surrounding the little hamlet of Plucks Gutter; upstream (towards Canterbury), we row as far as Grove Ferry and beyond, and downstream we can reach Sandwich (about 10 kilometres downstream), and eventually the sea (although it is a pretty long way!…). While not always straight, any competent sculler/bowperson/coxswain will quickly get round most of the bends.
The boathouse is easily accessible by the nearby A299/A28 (from Canterbury and North Kent/Thanet) and from the A256 (from Deal/Dover).
